SCALA and PPLC Sign MoU to Upskill Cambodia's Logistics Workforce

Singapore—19 June 2024—The Supply Chain and Logistics Academy (SCALA) Singapore and PPLC Superport & Industrial Co., LTD. (Cambodia) have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance Cambodia's supply chain and logistics sector. The signing ceremony took place this morning at the Conrad Centennial Singapore, witnessed by Her Excellency Mrs Cham Nimol, Minister of Commerce of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

The MoU exchange was further commemorated at the Cambodia-Singapore Business Forum in the presence of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

Through this partnership, SCALA will train up to 300 Cambodian trainees in Singapore. These trainees will gain comprehensive knowledge in business operations, development, optimisation, technology, and global supply chains. The programme includes hands-on experiential learning and certification as Certified Supply Chain Analysts from the International Supply Chain Educators Alliance (ISCEA). PPLC will prioritise recruiting these trainees upon programme completion. 

“This MoU is a significant step in upskilling Cambodia’s logistics capabilities,” said Mr Ian Dyason, CEO of SCALA. “We are excited to collaborate with PPLC to equip Cambodian trainees with the skills needed for success in this dynamic industry. Today’s signing ceremony is another major milestone to develop logistics and supply chain connectivity across ASEAN.” 

Logistics has become one of Cambodia's fastest-growing sectors, driven by manufacturing and e-commerce. The Phnom Penh Logistics Complex (PPLC) vision, part of the 2018 Smart Growth Connect (SGConnect™) project, aims to promote sustainable city growth using advanced logistics technologies and developing local human capital across ASEAN. The SuperPort™ will enhance multimodal transport efficiency, create a robust logistics ecosystem, reduce costs, improve competitiveness, integrate supply chains, and drive regional economic growth. Identified in Cambodia’s Logistics Master Plan, the SuperPort™ supports the country's integration into the ASEAN Smart Logistics Network (ASLN), promoting connectivity and resilience while boosting economic development and business connectivity in the region.
